This is a simple guide on how i removed the Win32 Anomaly.gen! trojan on my HP laptop.

The issue with the trojan that it is located in the recovery image file. Tobe more precise it is in located in the Plants vs Zombies game.

I have the feeling that the trojan has been dorment since i bought the laptop since alot of times it was very sluggish.

Since 18-01-2012 Microsoft Security Essentials released a new viri definition and with a full scan the Win32 Anomaly.gen! trojan shows up.

Since the HP recovery image file is over 19 gigabytes every viri scanner that i tried will choke on it.

So getting ridd of the Win32 Anomaly.gen! trojan was a no go till i figured i should format the D partition that contained the Win32 Anomaly.gen! trojan.

If you have not made these disks i suggest you do so. Goto start, programs, HP and create the recovery DVD’s (you need 5 blank DVD’s).

Once i created them i formatted the D partition and ran a full scan and behold it worked.

For a second opinion try Hitmanpro.

Since i now had 19 GB of free space i decided to install Linux Unbuntu. When i bought the HP DV6 it failed but the latest version of Unbuntu works like a charm. If you never messed with Unbuntu then i recommend installing Unbuntu with the Wubi installer.

This is a smal program that you install using windows. It’s almost fully automated and if it doesn’t workout then you just uninstall it under windows !

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/windows-installer

This is the easiest way ever to install Linux Unbuntu. So i am now running Win 7 and Linux on my HP laptop and it feels faster then ever

What’s going on ?
At the moment ICANN and the domain registrars are working on a new RAA (Registrar Accreditation Agreement).
This agreement is large and covers alot of topics that deal with domain operations.
The current RAA doesn’t cover much what Law Enforcement Agencies would like to see.
The last few years there has been alot of pressure from the GAC regarding more enforcement.

I thougt i made a screenshot just incase Coca Cola wasn’t ready to launch this website to the public just yet. You never know if they pull the plug so it is handy to have a screenshot. Even if Coca Cola would use a Privacy protect handle to cover it up, there is always Domain Tools wich allows you to look up WHOIS history records.

The Internet-Invest company, which is the registrar of .ua domain names, has unblocked the domain name of the ex.ua file-sharing website.

The press service of the registrar announced this to Ukrainian News.

“Given the specific nature of operation of the DNS system, the domain will be available within 1-24 hours,” the company said.

The registrar unblocked the website’s domain name after checking the notification it received from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The press service stressed that the availability of the domain name does not mean resumption of the operations of the file-sharing website.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the investigation department of Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district administration withdrew a submission made to the Internet Invest company on February 2, and requested cancellation of the decision to block the ex.ua file-sharing website’s domain name.

The Interior Affairs Ministry shut down the ex.ua file-sharing website on January 31 as part of a criminal investigation into copyright violations.

Later in the evening on January 31, there were problems accessing the website of the Interior Affairs Ministry, which the ministry blamed on a hacker attack.

Later, there were problems accessing the websites of several government agencies, including the websites of the President of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine, and the Party of the Regions.

This is a pretty cool demo wich is in beta. Intel’s virtual booth explorer.

Intel’s Virtual Booth Explorer was created as a way for demo teams within Intel to extend the reach and life of the demos that they create. So much time and effort goes into creating a demonstration for a show, that it only makes sense to try to capture that demo and make it available to others that could not attend the show.

Now it looks like Intel acquired the domain names test virtualshowfloor.com and virtualshowfloor.com. I say it looks since the domain names are still with Moniker and the original registrant is still showing up in the WHOIS.

And the current registrant looks like a domainer. Fact is that TestVirtualShowFloor is a fully operational website wich you can visit here : http://testvirtualshowfloor.com.

I guess the registrant will soon change to Intel.

Have fun with the demo

The days of pretending to be Mickey Mouse or Daffy Duck when you register a domain name could be numbered, following demands placed on ICANN by law enforcement agencies and governments.

ICANN is currently locked in contract talks with its accredited domain name registrars, and expects they will agree to make the verification of customer identities mandatory later this year.

If the rule changes go ahead, registrars such as Go Daddy and Network Solutions could be obliged to ensure that the Whois database records submitted by their customers are accurate.

Such a policy would very likely increase the price of .com domain names, due to the registrars’ added cost of paying for commercial verification services. While encouraged by law enforcement and intellectual property concerns, which regularly and loudly complain about the difficulty of tracking down crooks online, the proposed rule change has been criticised by privacy advocates.

Today, Whois databases contain the contact information – including name, physical address and phone number – of people who register domain names. Most top-level domains have such a database.

But while registrars are obliged to remind customers annually about Whois accuracy, and can take down domains if they receive complaints, they don’t have to proactively check that Whois records are accurate.

This means that nervous domain buyers can either pay an extra fee for a privacy-protection service, or pretend to be Mr Nobody from Nowheresville, Nowhere, giving a phone number of 555-555-5555.

But this could change under amendments to the ICANN Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) currently under negotiation in closed-door talks between ICANN and registrars. On three occasions over the last few weeks, senior ICANN executives have notified the US administration and Congress that they expect a revised RAA to crack down on phoney Whois.

“ICANN expects that the RAA will incorporate – for the first time – Registrar commitments to verify WHOIS data,” CEO Rod Beckstrom told the US Department of Commerce earlier this month.

His words were echoed in two letters to concerned congressmen by senior vice president Kurt Pritz last week, following on from Congressional hearings held in December. Beckstrom indicated that the new RAA will be drafted before March, and that registrars with years left on their current contracts – the majority – will be offered incentives to switch to the new version before 2013. The RAA applies to the 21 generic top-level domains – such as .com, .org, .biz and .xxx – and the hundreds of new gTLDs ICANN intends to start approving next year, rather than country-codes such as .uk and .fr. In the UK, individuals are allowed to privacy-protect their .uk Whois records.

The changes would not affect registrars’ ability to offer Whois privacy services for an additional fee, though other amendments could formalise the process of unmasking such registrants accused of criminal behaviour or cybersquatting. And it’s not certain yet that Whois verification will become mandatory. Registrars generally oppose such moves, largely due to the complexity and because the cost of commercial identity database services could double the price of domain names in some cases.

Members of ICANN’s Non-Commercial Users Constituency also oppose Whois verification on privacy grounds, fearing abuse by over-zealous cops and copyright interests. But there’s a significant amount of political pressure to make the changes.

Whois verification was part of a package of a dozen measures first proposed by law enforcement agencies in 2009, but it was not until ICANN’s public meeting in Senegal last October – when registrars got a good kicking from governments including the US and UK – that talks to amend the RAA began in earnest.

Some registrars, speaking privately to El Reg, are concerned that their industry could be in for a rematch when ICANN convenes its next public meeting in Costa Rica this March.

Now that ICANN has told the US that Whois verification is “expected”, if the provision does not make an appearance in the redrafted RAA then ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee, backed by national law enforcement agencies, will likely claim that the industry is incapable of self-regulation. While the RAA amendments are a separate policy issue to ICANN’s recently launch new generic top-level domains programme, interest from Congress has tied the two problems together. If ICANN cannot secure the RAA amendments governments are demanding, it will likely face further criticism that its new gTLDs will be a haven for fraud. ®

Following the opening of applications for new Top-Level Domains on 12 January, NCC Group (LSE: NCC.L), the world’s largest IT assurance/software and data escrow company, and ARI Registry Services, a leading provider of back-end registry services and consulting to applicants for top-level domains, today announce a program to assist prospective applicants with the management of their new domains. Under the terms of this agreement, NCC Group will refer prospective applicants to ARI Registry Services for technical back-end registry services and consulting, and ARI Registry Services will refer prospective applicants to NCC Group for data escrow and IT assurance services.

The new Top-Level Domain program was given the go-ahead in Singapore on 20 June 2011 by ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the global governing body for internet addresses. The monumental shake-up will see domain names move beyond the increasingly saturated .com space to a large number of generic domains. ICANN’s application window for new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD) will close on 12 April 2012.

The new gTLD program will allow for new Internet extensions similar to .com, .biz and .info to be applied for and introduced, with interest currently being shown for extensions representing brands (for example .canon), generic words (.shop or .web) and geographic locations (.paris). As part of the gTLD application process, applicants must demonstrate how they will satisfy many different ICANN accreditation criteria. One critical requirement is to establish daily transfers of domain registration data to a reputable escrow agent such as NCC Group. Data escrow is one of the five critical functions of running a registry and is necessary to ensure continuity of registry operations in the event of a physical, technical, or business failure.

Adrian Kinderis, CEO of ARI Registry Services, said: “The data escrow requirement for new gTLDs from ICANN means that new gTLD applicants have to find a provider with quality and reliability. That is why we are delighted to work with the world’s largest IT assurance and data escrow company. We are confident in NCC Group’s capabilities and that their approach mirrors ours.”

Tom Scopazzi, Registry Services Manager at NCC Group, added: “ARI Registry Services’ registry platform is fast and flexible and works with many business models while maintaining high reliability. We look forward to working with ARI Registry Services to help new gTLD applicants with the technical implementation of their new Top-Level Domains.”

NCC Group has been active in the domain name community since 2007 when it assisted ICANN with the development of the gTLD Registry Failover Plan. Since then, NCC Group has been the preferred escrow provider for a number of registries and registrars worldwide, and is proud to be the only escrow provider with major operations in Europe and North America. NCC Group’s offering is compliant with both US and EU law, and is designed to meet the needs of all registry operators worldwide.
